Apache Junction police are searching for a man who tried robbing two bank patrons using ATMs. Around 6:55 a.m. Sunday, a man knocked on the vehicle window of a man getting cash from the Bank of America drive-through ATM at 3160 W. Apache Trail, police said.

The suspect, who was wearing a mask, told the driver he had a gun and demanded money, Apache Junction Police Department Captain Thomas Kelli said.

Police are not releasing the amount of money stolen. Kelli said the masked man then eged toward the driver, attempting to steal the vehicle.

The victim, who didn't have a cell phone, sped away from the bank, driving to the local Walmart to call police, Kelli said.

About 10 minutes later, a suspect with a similar description, confronted a man at the walk-up ATM in the front of the bank. The suspect threatened the man with a hammer, and again demanded money, Kelli said.

This time the patron fought back, pulling the mask off the man.

The suspect fled to a dark colored mini-van parked across the street and drove away. He is described as a light skinned Hispanic male or a White male in his 20s or 30s. The suspect is about 5 feet, 7 inches, 150 to 160 pounds with brownish hair.
