Florence Anual Historic Tour PDF Print E-mail
Saturday, 23 January 2010
Florence will celebrate its 25th Annual Tour of Historic Florence on Saturday, February 13, 2010.

Featuring 15 buildings that highlight Florence’s accomplishments in historic preservation. Some of these buildings would have been lost had it not been for the dedication of Florence’s citizens and leadership to preserving the town’s history.

Florence is noted for its collection of Territorial period architecture with over 120 buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The heart of the downtown commercial district retains much of its original western character with old adobes, graceful Victorians, and early 20th century commercial structures.

The tour not only focuses on the town’s architecturally significant buildings, it also gives visitors a glimpse of the history that lies beyond walls and foundations. The stories that shape Florence’s history run the gamut from old west gun fights to politicians and movie stars.

Florence recently earned the  number two spot on True West Magazine’s Top Ten True Western Towns based on how the town has preserved its history through old buildings, museums and other institutions, events and promotions of historic resources. This is the second year that Florence has made the top ten list

Find out what makes this town so special by spending the day on the tour and at other activities that include special exhibits, a book sale and book signings by regional authors. After the tour, stop by the Florence Aeromodeler Park to see the Fun Fly & Swap Meet just 2 miles south of Florence on Highway 79.

The self-guided tour begins at the Florence Visitor Center located at 291 N. Bailey Street in downtown Florence. Admission for adults is $10 in advance or $12 on the day of the tour, children under 18 are free. Trolleys will provide transportation to tour sites at no additional cost. Proceeds from the tour support downtown revitalization activities of the Florence Main Street Program.
