The Pinal County National Day of the Cowboy is coming up fast (Saturday, July 25th, 2009) and we wished to update Friends of the Cowboy everywhere on the developments.

  • We are proud to announce the following dignitaries as Grand Marshals of the Goldfield Ghost Town events Opening Drovers Procession. They include; State Senator Rebecca Rios, Pinal County Supervisor Bryan Martyn, Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu, Apache Junction Mayor John Insalaco and Apache Junction Chief of Police Jerald Monahan. Each of them is representative of the tremendous support the PNDOC has been favored with at all levels of government. We wish to also acknowledge the official Pinal Co. National Day of the Cowboy Proclamations being drafted by the Pinal County Supervisors and the City of Apache Junction.
  • The following corporations and organizations have graciously lent their support of the Goldfield PNDOC  through their sponsorships of the following events: Horizon Bay Retirement Living/ The Drover’s Procession. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority/ The P.T. Barnum Entertainment Emporium. Twin Cities Federal/ The Kid’s Korral and the National Rifle Association/ Partial sponsor of the Fast Draw Showdown. Others who have pledged their material support include the AJ News, the AJ Independent, the East Valley Tribune, Office Max, the Arizona Renaissance Faire and a growing host of others who wish to honor the American Cowboy and the promotion of a summer tourism economy in the area.
  • The following acts & entertainment has been booked for the P.T. Barnum Entertainment Emporium: Pioneer Pepper & The Sunset Pioneers, The McNasty Brothers, Dennis Lease and Paydirt, The Cowgirl Fashion Show & Revue by the Historical Foundation of Cowgirls, Drill and Polish by the Buffalo Soldiers of the Arizona Territories, Professor Marvel’s Traveling Medicine Show, RadioZona and Diane Merrill & the Cowgirl Poets.  In addition, the PNDOC will feature the Old West Players (courtesy of the Arizona Renaissance Faire), gunfights by the Goldfield Gunfighters and strolling players and balladeers. Look for more entertainment & exhibits to be added.

We hope all you Whiskerinos out there are getting ready for the Earp-Holliday Mustache Contest!  Call the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce at (480-982-3141) for information or go to www.goldcanyontoday.com.

Start making you challenges for the Fast Draw Sheriffs Showdown. Pick a friend or foe to shoot against and be ready to “make your play” with a genuine .45 single action revolver against the iron “bad man”. Each contestant will automatically be given a ticket that might win one of two Ruger pistols being given away to participants of the Showdown. (18 years or older. Subject to certain conditions.)

We encourage everyone to start making your plans to entertain the thousands of people who will be around town that day. We suggest local businesses offer specials, events, coupons or programs to keep folks in town after the PNDOC at Goldfield closes! Advertise them and arrange to have your coupons placed in the official program handed out to each attendee!

Support the Pinal County National Day of the Cowboy! We have one remaining Event Sponsorship (The Earp-Holliday Mustache Contest) and the NRA is seeking a partner for the Fast Draw. Even more importantly, we urge you to send in your $50.00 - $100.00 individual Friend of the Cowboys donation to the Apache Junction Chamber of Commerce, PO Box 1747, Apache Junction, AZ 85217. It’s an investment in a summer economy that will grow!

Don’t forget there are a wealth of other events offered by our PNDOC partners in Gold Canyon and Superior! Go to www.goldcanyontoday.com for complete information on all Pinal County National Day of the Cowboy activities!
